GC 2008: Far Cry 3 revealed

During an interview for videogaming247 at the 2008 Leipzig Games Convention, Patrick Redding - designer Ubisoft Montreal, revealed that Far Cry 3 is already in the early development stages. The producers will keep the action in Africa, a decision supported by the opportunities offered, as well as the production advantages to keeping the same setting as the one in the soon to be released Far Cry 2. Nevertheless, the Dunia engine is flexible enough to allow the designers to move the action to any setting deemed interesting for a first person shooter.

Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning goes Gold

According to Tiscali Games, additional to an extended multiplayer, the PC version of the action game Grand Theft Auto IV will run on a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1600 and the textures will have a better resolution compared to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions. Furthermore, the PC Version will have a better view distance and will include an exclusive feature to create in-game movies.

Silent Hill Homecoming, soon for PC

Konami announced that the survival-horror Silent Hill Homecoming, now available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, will be launched for the PC platform as well, through Steam. For this chapter of the adventure, the players will control a new character, Alex Sheperd, who will return to his home town, Sheperd’s Glen, to investigate a series of mysterious happenings and the strange disappearance of his brother. Silent Hill Homecoming will be launched in September 2008.

Unveiling a trailer and the first ever images, Ubisoft announced that Related Designs Studios are working on a new title from the Anno series, called Anno 1404. This time, the players will be invited to travel far into the distant Orient in order to build new colonies and establish commercial relationships. Anno 1404 will be the first title of this series featuring two distinct civilizations. Furthermore, amongst the novelties prepared for this title is a new, redesigned fighting system, an improved interface, a completely new engine, much bigger isles and cities, as well as an economic system conceived to be easy to grasp even by beginners. Current launch date for Anno 1404 is March 2009.

Acclaim announced that they obtained the rights of distribution in North America for the new MMORPG The Chronicles of Spellborn. The game is developed by the Dutch studios Spellborn and is programmed for launch at the end of this year.

CG 2008: New Details for Need for Speed Uncover

During Games Convention 2008, Electronic Arts provided the press with new details about Need for Speed Undercover, currently under development by the Canadian studios EA Black Box. The area where the action will take place is called Try City Bay Area and will include over 80 miles of roads, including an extended highway system. The AI of the opponents has been greatly improved in intelligence and aggressiveness, and the police cars will use any means they have at hand to stop the players. Furthermore, the players will be able to customize their cars and use a realistic driving and damage system. Last but not least, the models available in-game will include licensed cars such as Audi R8, BMW M6 and Lexus IS-F. Need for Speed Uncover will be launched in Europe on November 21st.

Electronic Arts informed the press that the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the football sim FIFA 09 will include the Live Season system, which will update weekly the statistics of the football players so that they correspond to their real performances during the 2008-2009 season. The new service will cover Premier League, Ligue 1, La Liga BBVA, Bundesliga, Serie A and the Mexican Primera Division. Fifa 09 will be launched on October 3rd.

In line with the launch of the new official site, Futuremark Games studios revealed that they are working on a new multiplayer first-person shooter called Shattered Horizon. The main novelty of this title is the way the action will go down, in zero gravity conditions. The action takes place right after a catastrophic mining accident on the Moon created a dense asteroid belt that now surrounds the Earth. Unlike other similar titles, the players will have a complete freedom of movement, but to achieve victory, they will have to master the advantages offered by the surrounding area, such as asteroids or orbital infrastructure.
